Draping with Uniforms Workshop with Re.Shape Lab

This workshop was held and developed in preparation for a conference workshop titled Uniforms (re)done: A Workshop in Experimental Reconstruction Methodologies, in 2024. Participants were Dr Danielle Martin and her research assistants (undergraduate, graduate students) from the Re.Shape Lab at Toronto Metropolitan University. Using pre-existing uniforms as research tools, participants were invited to reflect on and write about their perceptions of the garments—what associations and emotions they evoked, and what possibilities they imagined for them. The experimental process of reconstruction, employing draping techniques on a dress form, was explored to uncover new tactile forms with speculative material qualities.
